Who we are
Bananas from small producers in El Oro for the European market
The Asociación Agraria Bananera Fincas de El Oro brings together small banana producers from the province of El Oro, in southern Ecuador. Together we grow, pack and sell our fruit under international standards, so that each family farm can reach markets that would be hard to access on its own.
Small producers from five cantons of El Oro
Our members' farms are located in Machala, El Guabo, Santa Rosa, Arenillas and Pasaje. They are family farms that decided to commercialize their production associatively, in the fair trade market, to gain economic, social and representation strength. The association coordinates certifications, quality control and the sale of the fruit, while each producer keeps working their own land.
Organic, Fairtrade and conventional bananas
We produce Cavendish bananas in two lines: organic and conventional. Both are grown under GlobalG.A.P. good agricultural practices, implemented individually in each production unit, and are sold under Fairtrade standards in social, environmental and labour matters. GRASP complements this work with its focus on the health, safety and rights of agricultural workers.
Exports to the European Union
Our bananas are exported to the European Union for importers such as AgroFair and Fyffes. Every box is packed according to the product specifications at the end of this page, so that buyers receive a uniform fruit that meets the requirements of the European market.
Social and environmental projects
Selling under fair trade allows us to invest in our communities and our land. We train producers in productive, environmental, organizational and occupational health and safety topics; we promote the inclusion of young people and women in the association; we reduce the water footprint of banana packing with pressurized nozzle systems; we take part in reforestation campaigns such as the Sowing Life program with the Prefecture of El Oro; and we apply environmental due diligence on our farms.
